Production phase
Cologne Conference

The  end conference, final piece of the eCLIPse project, took place in the Senatssaal of the University of Cologne (Germany) on 18 and 19 Feb 2005 . Almost 90 people were involved and exchanged their experiences and above all, showcased their own clips. The discussions took place in small, mixed groups. The groups were divided according to several categories of clips:

  • Prejudice
  • Social Isolation
  • Diversity
  • Public Opinion

Quotes from students about their experience at the Cologne Conference:

What I found the most important of the conference is the possibility to see the work of the other students, and to talk with them about the clips and the matter of the conference. I also liked to show our clip to them and had the opportunity to hear what they could perceive and think about the work we had done.’

Javier Romero

‘Also during the conference we could encounter many prejudices and stereotypes: the shy Norwegian students who hardly participated in any discussion, but in the night after a few beers suddenly opened their mouth; the Spanish people who tried to produce a familiar atmosphere with dancing and playing the piano…

When one is abroad he feels insecure and strange, therefore he hides himself in a world he better knows to feel more secure.’

Jolanta Wieczorek

Being able to see clips of other European countries has been very satisfying. I realised that digital media are very important for connections between people and I now think I see a more communicative future.'

David Salvador

I think it was essencial that we shared our work with students from other countries' (...) 'However, we could have included a wider participation; maybe it was necessary to involve the minorities themselves who are represented in our audiovisual products, so that we could have heard their opinions.'

'Until now we have been taught to speak and write to express ourselves, but now the time has come to learn how to 'write and speak' in audiovisual language, since nothing is as dangerous as the manipulation of a non-literate population.'

Alba Irigoyen
