The Project | Objectives

TV has become a closed circuit of advertisement in all its forms and often relies on image building to achieve its goals. Some of the consequences of the massive – and mainly free - distribution of value-loaded images at the service of economic benefit, are religious and gender prejudices, domestic violence, xenophobia and racism, none of which contribute to real integration of European citizens.

In order to counter this tendency, citizens – especially young people – should start exploring the real possibilities of enabling themselves and the future generations to give a critical and creative answer to value-loaded image building. One of the ways this can be achieved is the new medium: the Internet. We strongly believe that future citizens, individually or collectively, will use this new communication medium to distribute their own material and offer alternatives to corporate ‘mainstream’ images.

Therefore, this project has three main objectives, all related to Media Literacy:

1. To enable young people to analyse current media contents critically and demask available value-loaded information disguised as unbiased information,

 2. To enable the same young people, who will also be the educators of the near future, to pass on this critical awareness to future generations,

3. To generate a model for training young European citizens for creating and distributing, with the necessary media literacy bagage, new and innovative audiovisual material through alternative channels like the Internet
